What is AI?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is technology that enables computers and machines to simulate human learning, comprehension, problem solving, decision making, creativity and autonomy.
Applications and devices equipped with AI can see and identify objects. They can understand and respond to human language. They can learn from new information and experience. They can make detailed recommendations to users and experts. They can act independently, replacing the need for human intelligence or intervention (a classic example being a self-driving car).
But in 2025, most AI researchers, practitioners and most AI-related headlines are focused on breakthroughs in generative AI (gen AI), a technology that can create original text, images, video and other content. To fully understand generative AI, it’s important to first understand the technologies on which generative AI tools are built: machine learning (ML) and deep learning
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been under development for a few decades and it is already invigorating industries and even societies, and of course becoming indispensable to our daily life. There is a plethora of AI usage starting from auto-mobiles, to digital assistants and as the technology progresses newer applications are found all the time. AI: Its creation, uses, opportunities, and risks of this game-changing technology, and where it is going to are discussed in this article.
1. What is Artificial intelligence?
The term AI is an abbreviation of artificial intelligence. These machines are designed, especially in terms of operation, to federate and execute functions that in human beings correspond to learning, problem solving, and decision making. The field of AI encompasses several subfields, including:
Machine Learning (ML): An approach by which systems refine their performance with feedback from the inputs, and without being hardcoded to do so.
Natural Language Processing (NLP): Allows for handling of day to day affairs especially touching human languages by the machines.
Robotics: Robots interact with their operating environment by using information to accomplish a particular task.
The AI subject began around the mid of the twentieth century and the early point work was done by computer scientist, Alan Turing. AI is today still motivated by the progress in computational capability, data accessibility, and new algorithm.
2. How AI Is Being Used in Business Today
AI has a significant impact across various industries, reshaping traditional processes and introducing innovative solutions:
Healthcare: AI is applied in diagnosis, discovery of drugs and even in development of medicine that cater for specific individuals. Machine learning methods are used to identify features on medical images, for disease prognosis, and help in medical research.
Finance: AI is used in financial institutions for detecting fraud; algorithmic trading, credit scoring; customer service.
Retail: With recommendation engine to supply chain management, an artificial intelligence maps out customers.
