Who doesn't like a good lifted, geared-up pickup truck? Don't answer that. Though if you clicked on this article, then you're probably one of the many who do. We also like trucks at Car and Driver, and we're stoked to see what the folks at Overland Expo came up with for this year's „Ultimate Overland Vehicle Build.“ This one marks the sixth time Overland Expo has taken a stock vehicle and decked it out with all the necessary gear to travel to wherever property lines allow.
After modifying GMC and Lexus models over the past few years, for 2026, the Overland Expo has moved on to a new brand: Nissan. The featured foundation for this year's Ultimate Build is a 2026 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X finished in Afterburn Orange.
The mid-size truck is powered by Nissan's naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V-6 that makes 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque. The custom Frontier is also outfitted with parts from 28 different brands, such as Diode Dynamics for additional lighting, NISMO Off-Road rock sliders, Pelican cases, a bed-mounted pop-up tent, and Black Rhino wheels. At the moment, details are sparse, but the full build will be revealed later this week at Overland Expo West in Flagstaff, Arizona. The event will be held from May 15 to 17.

The first Ultimate Build was a 2020 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road outfitted with everything from a KC LED lightbar, 33-inch Firestone Destination M/T2 tires, and a roof tent to an e-bike mounted to the rear. Like the Ultimate Builds that followed it, that 4Runner was eventually auctioned off on our sister website, Bring a Trailer.
