SAUDI ARABIA: The BMW i4 is going out, and the new i3 has just been announced. Like a peaceful transition, the brand has placed the discontinuation and launch timelines such that there’s overlap between the two. To put it into perspective, the i4 is going to be discontinued next year, and the i3 is planned for a launch by the end of 2026.
When discussing this timeline overlap, the BMW product boss, Jochen Goller, said, „When you look back on the last 20 years, you always had new models coming in and old models phasing out. So I think this is part of the history of our industry. And what you will always see is the volumes of the existing cars, in this case the i4, phasing out, and then [the new car], the i3, clearly ramping up. But as with every model, that was already factored into our planning.“
The i4 was BMW’s entry-level variant, which is now going to be replaced by the i3. The i3 is already turning heads with its incredible range figures of up to 900 km on a single charge. This is being made possible by the Neue Klasse platform. As for the i4, the brand has stated that this is not the end of the line for the nameplate. There are plans to revive the nameplate with a new generation after a couple of years in 2028. The i4 nameplate will also get a Neue Klasse makeover at that point. Even though there’s much debate about the model getting a range of powertrain options in its next-generation, industry insiders say that the next-generation i4 will be only an EV.
